Give Them to Eat Ministries was founded by a local church member in 1994 and provides a food pantry, soup kitchen and groceries. Now, harsh economic times, and rising rent and food prices have caused the number of people seeking food to triple. To worsen the problem, $3 billion in funding for the US Department of Agriculture’s food assistance program may be cut by December. The founder worries about the future of the pantry, saying that a church can only do so much before funding for food, heat and electricity runs out.
