Map Depicts Differences in Per Pupil Spending Across State
The Citizens Budget Commission offers an interactive map of all the school districts in New York State and how much each district spends per student. This allows for comparisons in per-pupil spending among regions and districts. Not only do vast differences exist among regions — to the sum of tens of thousands of dollars — but also within their districts.

New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley, for example, spend the most on students in the state, with the city spending $20,276 in “total instructional and support costs per student.”
However, while these regions may be considered the “highest spending,” there is also a large difference within their districts. The CBC points out that in Long Island for example, Montauk in Suffolk, spends $36,700 per pupil while Floral Park in Nassau spends $13,950.
