After Freddie Gray’s Death: A Message for Mainstream Media

Hundreds of people turned out in Union Square the night of Wednesday, April 29 to protest the death of Freddie Gray, and more than 100 were arrested by police in the course of the evening. Gray died on April 19 in Baltimore, a week after suffering a broken vertebra immediately following his arrest.

Reporter Marguerite Ward asked a number of people who gathered in Union Square about how mainstream media has reported on the reaction to Gray’s death in Baltimore – about the words that shouldn’t be used to describe people, and the words that should. Watch her report.
