St. Lucia’s Day in Bay Ridge

The Swedish tradition of celebrating St. Lucia’s Day was marked by the Swedish Folkdancers of NY in Bay Ridge on Dec. 13, Michelle DeSantos reports in The Home Reporter.

The event included Scandinavian and American music as well as some Christmas songs. The Lucia procession

…recreated the traditional Swedish Festival of Light. Led by a woman dressed in a white gown with a red sash, and wearing a crown of candles, the pageant is the centerpiece of St.Lucia’s Day celebrations, bringing light into darkness on one of the shortest days of the year.
