Opposing Views on the Liang Conviction

Thousands of Chinese Americans gathered in Brooklyn’s Cadman Plaza on Feb. 20 to show their support for former NYPD officer Peter Liang. Liang was convicted in the fatal shooting of Akai Gurley in 2014.

Gurley was unarmed when he was shot and killed in a dimly lit stairwell in the Pink Houses. Liang said the shooting was accidental.

The event was one of dozens of rallies held simultaneously across the country in support of Liang. But the day was not without opposition from those who believe the verdict is just.

Melissa Rose Cooper spoke to several people about their frustrations and feelings.
