Bengali New Year Marked in Queens

The Bengali New Year, known as Pohela Boishakh, was celebrated in Jackson Heights on April 14 at an event sponsored by the Jackson Heights Bangladeshi Business Association. People young and old gathered at Diversity Plaza for the festivities, which included musical performances and face painting for children. Traditional foods served during the new year, such as panta ilish, a rice and fried fish platter, were also available to mark the occasion.

Aantaki Raisa was at the celebration.
