On the occasion of the 108th International Women’s Day, New York Rep. Joseph Crowley honored Nepalese activist Narbada Chhetri.

Chhetri, the director of organizing and advocacy for the organization Adhikaar – a nonprofit organization based in Queens – has been honored for her contribution to addressing the rights of Nepalese living in the city.

The event was held at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx on March 12. Besides Chhetri, two other women were also honored. Beverly Roberts, the CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People – Parkchester Branch, and Meridith Maskara, the CEO of the Girl Scouts of Greater New York, were the other honorees.

“I never thought I would be receiving this honor,” said Chhetri. “I think my honesty and continuous hard work is what got me this honor.”

Chhetri has been associated with Adhikaar since 2007 and lives in Woodside, Queens, with her daughter.
