Talking About Diversity at Elite High Schools

In this episode of CUNY TV’s “Brian Talks New York,” host Brian Lehrer takes a look at how to broaden diversity and boost the numbers of Black and Latino students at the specialized high schools in New York, a city that has one of the country’s most segregated school systems.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., Council member Keith Powers, Lazar Treschan of Community Service Society and Jacqueline Wayans of Lantern Community Services join him in discussing how changing the admissions process at elite high schools and other factors can increase diversity instead of relying on a testing system that resulted from “white flight” in the 1970s.
