One-Minute Primer on the NYS Assembly, from Cruz

Many people, says Catalina Cruz, have been asking her what the New York State Assembly is. So she decided to provide a succinct explanation.

Cruz, the Colombian-born attorney and Dreamer from Jackson Heights who’s running for the District 39 Assembly seat, on Wednesday released a campaign video neatly wrapped up in a straightforward and helpful civics lesson. Available in both English and Spanish, the one-minute video explains what the state assembly in Albany is, how many members it has, what important issues the assembly members decide on and why “we need someone in the room who is a leader and understands what our community needs.”

Cruz, a Democrat, most recently worked as chief of staff for former Council member Julissa Ferreras-Copeland. Both Ferreras-Copeland and former City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito recently endorsed Cruz.
