Telling Immigrant Stories in ‘(Dis)Placed in Sunset Park’

“(Dis)Placed in Sunset Park” uses augmented reality, maps and videos to tell the stories of working-class Chinese and Latino communities in Sunset Park in an effort to preserve the experiences of residents affected by gentrification. SinoVision English Channel speaks to Betty Yu, the artist behind the multimedia exhibit. Having grown up in the Brooklyn neighborhood, she has personally witnessed the changes, especially in the third largest, and most densely populated, Chinatown in New York City.

A panel discussion, “Disrupting Gentrification in Sunset Park,” will take place on Sept. 29, the last day the project will be on view.
