New York City taxi drivers, whose sedentary lives behind the wheel give them little time for exercise or healthy eating, face some dire health consequences, but there are efforts underway to address the problem. Several hospitals and health care programs around the city offer drivers health screenings and advice.

As the national debate over health care rages, Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx has a solution, at least for local uninsured artists. The hospital has launched a program for artists that allows them to contribute artwork or performances in exchange for credits that they can swap for their own health care.
