Legal Aid for Detained Pakistanis

The Association of Pakistani Americans For Community Organization last week announced that it was ready to provide legal aid to Pakistanis who have been jailed on suspicions of having links with the terror attacks.

Malik Abdul Jabbar, president of the association, asked the relatives and friends of detainees to provide the Association with all the information necessary for legal recourse. He said his group would soon be meeting with members of the US Congress and Senate, and officials of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).

More than 200 Pakistanis have been arrested and detained at several locations as a result of sweeps by the FBI and the INS. Most Pakistani detainees are believed to be innocent and are said to have no links with Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda or any other terrorist group.
