Video: Hip-Hop With a Bengali Flavor

Nabin Laskar, the Bengali-American rapper known as Brooklyn Shanti, describes his path to hip-hop music and the challenges he faced along the way in an interview with Prescotte Stokes III and Tania Rashid of The Brooklyn Ink, above.

Despite his parents’ initial efforts to steer him away from music when he was a teenager, the Bedford-Stuyvesant-based rapper stayed the course, and a few years later released his first solo album, titled “Indian Bambaataa.” His songs have been well-received in South Asia and Europe, and one of his songs – “Rani Rani” – was featured in a Bollywood film.
