Bushwick’s Raw Ministries Draws Untraditional Worshippers

In the heart of Bushwick, Brooklyn, a modest storefront that used to be a barber shop is now home to Raw Ministries, a non-denominational Christian church that has some ties to Pentecostalism, whose adherents emphasize direct inspiration by the Holy Spirit. Many of the members of its untraditional congregation, including the pastor himself, struggle or have struggled with substance abuse or have spent time in prison before finding their way to the church.

But this is not a story about the past. Here you’ll find a view into this vibrant community of worshippers during their weekly celebration of prayer. Rev. Grayling Ferrand and his wife Talisa are the spiritual core of this community and they help to narrate the following account.
