Dueling Thai Demonstrations at UN

Two opposing Thai groups gathered near the UN to welcome Thailand’s prime minister, Prayuth Chan-ocha, on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015. One group, the Political Democratic Reform Committee, chanted messages of support for the prime minister, who came into power after a military coup d’état in May 2014. The other group called for an end to the military regime.

Other countries and other issues also drew protesters to 47th and First Ave., the scene of many demonstrations during the period of UN General Assembly meetings.

Thai Prime minister Prayuth will speak at the UN this week.

Reporters Kanyakrit Vongkiatkajorn and Ken Aragaki interviewed Thais at the demonstration.
