The annual Turkish Day Parade organized by the Federation of Turkish American Associations (TADF) was celebrated for the 36th time in New York on May 20.

Representatives of the Turkish community from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut joined New Yorkers to watch the raising of the Turkish and American flags while the national anthems of both countries were played.

The Turkish Parade started at Madison Avenue and 53th Street at noon, and traveled to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza at 47th Street and 1st Avenue, where the parade was followed by a concert. No government official from Turkey participated in the parade.

Some participants held signs saying, in both Turkish and English, “Turkey is secular and will remain secular,” just as last year.

Turkey’s UN permanent representative, Ambassador Feridun Hadi Sinirlioǧlu, Turkish Consul General in New York Ertan Yalçın, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) New York Representative Mehmet Dânâ and TADF President Atilla Pak did participate in the parade. Several other representatives from Azerbaijan, KKTC, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as Crimean Turks also marched.
