A procession marking the feast day of St. Irene was held on July 30 in Astoria, with a liturgy performed at the Church of St. Irene Chrysovalantou. Demetris Tsakas, reporting in The National Herald, said that attendees came from as far as Boston and Baltimore.

Every year, Greek Americans “pray and venerate the icon of the Saint for their own health and for that of their loved ones,” wrote Tsakas. Festivities began on the evening of Wednesday, July 26, and ended with the procession carrying the icon of St. Irene Chrysovalantou.
