‘Saturday Chinese’ in Chinatown

SinoVision visits the CMP (Chinatown Manpower Project) Chinese school, one of the five larger such schools in Chinatown. Like the dozens of others in the neighborhood and the many across the U.S., CMP teaches language and culture to mostly Chinese-American youths. The video traces the history of Chinese-language schools in the U.S., the first of which dates back to 1886. Many decades later, Chinese parents continue to send their kids to language schools for the same reason – to preserve their culture.

The video is part of a series on CMP. Watch the rest of the videos at SinoVision English Channel.
