The Washington Heights-Inwood Coalition has shut down after 34 years of providing programs and resources for families, as well as the city’s first community mediation program, reports El Diario-La Prensa.

Community leaders attribute the financial crisis facing Latino nonprofits to rules imposed by the Bloomberg administration when it comes to accessing city funding. The dependence of Latino groups on public funds has become problematic and put their financial future in limbo, reports El Diario-La Prensa. But it’s not only challenges from the city, some nonprofits also face internal problems.

An Accusation of Censorship at Salvadoran Festival

After an editorial that criticized the financial oversight of the Salvadoran-American Day Festival on Long Island, one of La Tribuna Hispana’s photojournalists was denied access to the VIP area at the festival earlier this month in Hempstead. The publication is now accusing the festival’s organizers of censorship.
